Our Story

Carla Fonts, founder of Dunbar Road Design, comes from a distinguished background in Cuba. Both of her parents are part of prominent Havana families; her grandmother and mother were the types of women who traveled to Paris to purchase table linens for entertaining. “My mom appreciated the finer things, had impeccable taste, and paid attention to the smallest details,” explains Fonts, who inherited that mindset.

In 1958 after being exiled from Cuba, her family eventually made their way to Palm Beach, where her grandmother rented the glamorous 1920s-era home pictured above, located on Dunbar Road. This served as the inspiration behind Dunbar Road Design’s name and aesthetic. The grandeur of these homes that Fonts would frequent later after her relatives' time there made a lasting impression on her.

Selection of photos from Carla, including one with her mother, her sister, the Dunbar Road sign, flanked by two monkeys.

“The interiors were so colorful yet timeless,” she recalls. “I loved how they pulled together different styles, mixing traditional pieces with bohemian and modern ones. I wanted to bring more of that feel to Dallas while also making the home reflect my client. My passion, my culture, my history, and my experience all come together when I am designing a home.”
